Our 13th April Open Day was very well attended and attracted support from members and visitors alike. Thanks a lot to coach Dan for organising. Here are a few pics of the day…
Members note - Spital has an allocation of 4 pairs of tickets which can be assigned for purchase to members through the ballot taking place in the first week of May.
See the club noticeboard for details and to sign up.
We are hugely grateful to Lee and Rachel for their commitment to the club over the years and wish them all the best as they take a step back from coaching and devote more time to family.
The club is beginning a new coaching partnership with Microsports Ltd and new details for 2019 can now be found on our coaching page
Thanks to those who have entered the club tournament this year. The draw has been published and full details can be found on the tournament page and on the club noticeboards. Matches begin on or before 29th September, with Finals Day on 14th October. Good luck to all the players!
Spital Tennis Club takes seriously the wellbeing of our members. We want our club to be a safe, accessible, enjoyable and welcoming environment for everyone. In anticipation of the new LTA Minimum Standards for Venue Registration, the club is grateful to Roy Layton for taking on the role of Welfare Officer. We have also published details of our policies concerning welfare and safeguarding, which are available in the clubhouse, and here on the website.
These and other policies are available to our members in the Members Section (the login password was provided to you when you joined or renewed your membership - please ask Ian Jones or Andrew Flynn for a reminder!)
The LTA ballot for Wimbledon tickets in 2019 is now open. In order to maximise the ticket allocation to the club we encourage all our members to Opt In via the LTA website here - https://www.lta.org.uk/Members-Area/home/benefits/british-tennis-membership-wimbledon-ballot-opt-in. You will have received an LTA membership number upon joining or renewing your Spital membership.
Exciting news: The annual club tournament for members will run from 29th September to 14th October!
It costs £1 per player to enter, and entry forms are available to download here or to pick up from the club notice board. Forms should be submitted by September 18th.
Huge congratulations to our members for raising £220 for Stand up 2 Cancer on 26th May!
The event was well supported by the tennis players, their families and friends as well by the Junior Aces parents! It was a lovely afternoon for sport and eating and socialising. The clubhouse was decorated with bunting and balloons and lots of tennis players had generously donated splendid cakes.
Well done everyone!
Spring has finally sprung and Spital is buzzing with the sound of ball on racquet! The Burton League is underway and this year in doubles we have 3 Ladies teams, 2 Mixed and a Mens (congratulations to Mens A on their promotion to the 2nd division).
A few events coming up in May:
- Open Day / Tournament on 13th May at 10am - non-members welcome.
- Tennis AGM for members on 16th May at 7pm
- Cake & Bake in aid of Stand Up 2 Cancer on 26th May at 2pm
Doesn't time fly? To all our members, please opt into the Wimbledon Ballot via your BTM membership. The more members who opt in, the better our allocation of tickets in the ballot and therefore your chances of winning!
Don't be put off by recent changes to the LTA membership structure - all our Spital Members are automatically registered for free on the LTA website (although you need to activate your login).
We are proud to assist Tamworth Rotary in their support of Mary's Meals, a charity working to improve child education and eradicate child hunger.
"We make up backpacks for children in Liberia and Malawi, with everyday school items and personal items to aid their education. One of the items we like to include in the backpacks is a tennis ball and we are looking for donations, regardless of condition.
Last year we managed to send 200 backpacks and 25 boxes of backpack extra's. This year, thanks to the continuing support of the people and schools of Tamworth we have already sent 311 backpacks and 38 boxes of extra's. We would like to hit a target of 400 backpacks."
We can help the Rotary Club reach this target by donating our old tennis balls - please just put them in the box provided in the clubhouse. Thank you!
Our last club tournament of the year (probably!) will be a Mixed Doubles tournament on Sunday 15th October starting at 10am - please sign up on the sheet at the clubhouse noticeboard if you are interested in playing.
Note that the ticket allocations for the Wimbledon ballot have been made. If you are an LTA-registered member please review on the club noticeboard and add your name to the list if you want to enter, before 7th May. The allocations are:
- Centre - Wednesday 5th July - £73 each
- Centre - Sunday 16th July - £190 each
- Court 1 - Monday 10th July - £82 each
- Court 1 - Friday 14th July - £37 each

Our next club tournament (Mixed Doubles) will be on Sunday 23rd April. Please let Belinda know if you plan to come.
Great news! Our courts have been cleaned in preparation for the 2017 season and it is always a joy to play on a freshly cleaned surface. Inevitably over time moss and dirt accumulate on hard outdoor courts affecting the playing surface and grip, so our thanks once again to The Complete Tennis Court Service for carrying out this work.
So far the weather in 2017 has been pretty terrible but play has continued when possible, and our club sessions on Saturday afternoons and Wednesday evenings are now in full swing. The sun even shone this Saturday and it was good to see the all the courts in full use.
For our members, the Tennis AGM is on Wednesday 22nd March at 8pm - do come along if you can.
We'll be holding a Mixed Doubles tournament on Sunday 16th October at 10am. This is to honour former member Cliff Thomspon (we were not able to have the usual Tennis vs Bowls tournament this year).
All members welcome!
