New - Social Tennis, WhatsApp

A couple of things to update on since the club AGM:

  • NEW: Social Tennis on Sunday afternoons. For members - from Sunday 7 July and weekly thereafter we are going to trial social tennis, 2-4 pm. The format will be doubles, rounds of 5 games with short deuce. Players will be numbered on arrival to ensure everybody plays with as many different people as possible and has the same number of games. Oh, and there will be tea and cake.

  • NEW: WhatsApp group. There is a new WhatsApp group for Spital tennis members, to more easily stay in touch and share information about what’s happening around the club. If you are a member, a WhatsApp user, and are not yet in this group and would like to be, please speak to Andrew or Vali, or send a note via the contact form (be sure to include your mobile number in the message).

Wimbledon tickets

Well done to the winners of the ticket ballot - enjoy your visits to SW19!

There is still an opportunity for full club members to apply for up to 15 pairs of Court 1 tickets on the last weekend of Wimbledon, £70 on Saturday and £60 on Sunday. Junior matches are played on those days - girls on Saturday, boys on Sunday, plus there are other non-main matches. The only other matches taking place are the finals on Centre Court. These tickets do give an opportunity to see Wimbledon however.

If anyone is interested please contact Anne Wood before 23rd May.

LTA Minimum Standards for Venue Registration

Spital Tennis Club takes seriously the wellbeing of our members. We want our club to be a safe, accessible, enjoyable and welcoming environment for everyone. In anticipation of the new LTA Minimum Standards for Venue Registration, the club is grateful to Roy Layton for taking on the role of Welfare Officer. We have also published details of our policies concerning welfare and safeguarding, which are available in the clubhouse, and here on the website.

These and other policies are available to our members in the Members Section (the login password was provided to you when you joined or renewed your membership - please ask Ian Jones or Andrew Flynn for a reminder!)

Wimbledon Ballot 2019

The LTA ballot for Wimbledon tickets in 2019 is now open. In order to maximise the ticket allocation to the club we encourage all our members to Opt In via the LTA website here - You will have received an LTA membership number upon joining or renewing your Spital membership.

Cake & Bake for Stand Up 2 Cancer

Huge congratulations to our members for raising £220 for Stand up 2 Cancer on 26th May!

The event was well supported by the tennis players, their families and friends as well by the Junior Aces parents!   It was a lovely afternoon for sport and eating and socialising.  The clubhouse was decorated with bunting and balloons and lots of tennis players had generously donated splendid cakes.

Well done everyone!

April update

Spring has finally sprung and Spital is buzzing with the sound of ball on racquet!  The Burton League is underway and this year in doubles we have 3 Ladies teams, 2 Mixed and a Mens (congratulations to Mens A on their promotion to the 2nd division).

A few events coming up in May:

- Open Day / Tournament on 13th May at 10am - non-members welcome.

- Tennis AGM for members on 16th May at 7pm

- Cake & Bake in aid of Stand Up 2 Cancer on 26th May at 2pm

Wimbledon Ballot 2018 - opt in

Doesn't time fly?  To all our members, please opt into the Wimbledon Ballot via your BTM membership.  The more members who opt in, the better our allocation of tickets in the ballot and therefore your chances of winning!

Don't be put off by recent changes to the LTA membership structure - all our Spital Members are automatically registered for free on the LTA website (although you need to activate your login).

Call for Used Tennis Balls!

We are proud to assist Tamworth Rotary in their support of Mary's Meals, a charity working to improve child education and eradicate child hunger.

"We make up backpacks for children in Liberia and Malawi, with everyday school items and personal items to aid their education. One of the items we like to include in the backpacks is a tennis ball and we are looking for donations, regardless of condition.
Last year we managed to send 200 backpacks and 25 boxes of backpack extra's. This year, thanks to the continuing support of the people and schools of Tamworth we have already sent 311 backpacks and 38 boxes of extra's. We would like to hit a target of 400 backpacks."

We can help the Rotary Club reach this target by donating our old tennis balls - please just put them in the box provided in the clubhouse.  Thank you!
